Analysis of a Surface Acoustic Wave Motor

− Based on first principles a dynamical contact model of a Surface Acoustic Wave motor is built. Besides slider behavior also contact point behavior is obtained, which is hard to acquire experimentally. The contact point behavior is used to explain slider behavior like threshold amplitude and like oscillations that are observed in experimental set-ups.

Elastic friction drive of surface acoustic wave motor.

Importance of elastic deformation control to obtain large output force with a surface acoustic wave (SAW) motor is discussed in this paper. By adding pre-load to slider, stator and slider surfaces are deformed in a few tens nanometer. Appropriate deformation in normal direction against normal vibration displacement amplitude of SAW existed. By moderate deformation, the output force of the SAW m...

Surface Acoustic Wave Tactile Display

eveloping realistic tactile displays for virtual reality has been challenging. Tangible displays are increasingly important interfaces not only for augmenting the reality of computer graphics but also for conveying graphical information to persons with visual impairments. Researchers have used various actuators for displays such as miniature loud speakers , 1 a pin array, 2 pneumatic actuators,...

Applications of Surface Acoustic and Shallow Bulk Acoustic Wave Devices

Applications of surface acoustic wave (SA W) and shallow bulk acoustic wave (SBA W) devices are reviewed. SA W-device coverage includes delay lines and filters operating at selected frequencies in the range from about 10 MHz to 11 GHz, modeling with singlecrystal piezoelectrics and layered structures, resonators and lowloss filters, comb filters and multiplexers, antenna duplexers, harmonic dev...

Surface Acoustic Wave Based Magnetic Sensors

Since the radar system was invented in 1922, the development of devices communicating by means of reflected power has experienced a continuously growing interest. In 1948, Harry Stockman published a paper [1] in which he laid the basis for the idea of radio frequency identification (RFID), and the first patent had been filed in 1973 by Charles Walton. After decades of research and commercializa...
